I have always felt an affinity with the iconic legend Marilyn Monroe, which increased when I read a biography on her by an excellent writer/psychologist who shared many of the intimate details of Ms Monroe's childhood, which explained her low self esteem, substance misuse and led to her developing chronic codependency.
A poster child for the outcome of childhood emotional trauma, Marilyn hated herself and struggled with every aspect of her dysfunctional upbringing. Yet through it all, she had an intrinsic belief in herself, and followed her dreams to the end. For this I adore her. She is my inspiration and will always be a hero of mine.
This quote is the epitome of why I love her. She is the ultimate feminine figure, who even thought she often didn't live up to the things she is quoted to have said, at least she had the right idea.
How often do I preach and yet not practice it? Not all that often, but often enough not to judge those who are song their best as they navigate this quest for self love and authenticity.
